Second lowest stroke average (72.25) at Augusta National for golfers playing 100 or more rounds. Made 21 consecutive cuts at one point during his Masters career. Five-time British Open champion, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1983 tied for second in 1984. 1982 US Open champion runner-up in 1983 and 1987. Tied for second in 1978 PGA Championship. Has 39 PGA TOUR victories and a 12-time winner on the Champions Tour including the 2007 Senior British Open, the third time he had won the event. In 2003, he was the Champions Tour Player of the Year with victories at the Senior British Open and the Tradition. Was on 1977, 1981, 1983 and 1989 Ryder Cup Teams and Captain in 1993. Recipient of the 1987 Bob Jones Award presented by the USGA for distinguished sportsmanship in golf. Also given Payne Stewart and Card Walker awards. Making his 36th Masters appearance.
