GOLF VALHALLA
Wednesday, April 8, 2009
By Will Durst

Will DurstAn absolute perfect day for golf. Not a cloud in the sky. 62 degrees. Bit of a breeze but nothing like yesterday when parents held onto kids lest one or the other of them would be blown into Rae’s Creek. No pins bending today. And the down parkas have been put away. Maybe that’s what you need. A bad weather day to make you appreciate perfect golf conditions. Like running with weights on. Or eating bark and moss in anticipation of that great four-day steak dinner that starts tomorrow. Tiger went out at 8:55 a.m. EDT and a permanent portable clutch surrounded him as he made his way around the course. From high vantage it looked like an amoeba squishing and oozing its way around the ropes. One of the great pleasures of Augusta National is hearing distant roars and wondering who did what. It’s the last day cameras are allowed and patrons are getting their last licks in. You see somebody take a picture of the rest of their group and perfect strangers offer to snap the whole group together. You see a lot of that. The main 18 is emptying out with the crowds moving over to the par-3 course where the tournament gets under way at 2p.m. Think I’ll join them.
